WANT TO WALK ON WATER? STEP OUT OF YOUR BOAT!

Sometimes I get frustrated in discipleship.  My frustrations might seem directed towards people but its actually the FEARS thats eating them alive. I am angry at that. I really want to send them back to where they belong. I mean the Fear ha? Not the person! But at the same time you feel very helpless to help the person. You can't help someone unless they want the help. In my reverie, I thought of one of my rhemas lately in prayer. It was Peter walking on water in Matthew14:27-31. As I dwell in the Word, I also felt what Peter was going through. Have you ever tried wanting to experience something soooooo amazing it requires something from you really crazy? I dont really know what Peter's intentions were when he decided to step out of the boat and walked on water. It might have sounded like a way for him to prove it was really Jesus walking on water. So he asked Jesus to call him out and Jesus said, "Yes, come." (But as for me in my curre...

We All Have Two Women inside of us (if you're one) or with us (if you are a Man): the Wife or the Mistress

Whenever I read the book of Proverbs, I always want to be like her. Wisdom is always defined and personified as a woman calling out to the simpleminded and those who lack good judgement to join her in her feast. Can you imagine that? Wisdom is like a banquet host. What she says, the words of wisdom are like a home cooked meal! Partaking wisdom is like eating. Much like in Psalm 34:8 it says, "taste and see". I always liked her. Actually I wanted to be like her. Each chapter that she is described differently but makes me want more to be like her. Persistent and Unashamed In Proverbs 1 she is a Persistent Woman and unashamed. She calls out, cries out even in the public and to the crowds. She persistently calls out to share not just her counsel but even her own heart. I am greatly challenged by this as a pastor and discipler. When, just like Wisdom, you also experienced this lines: “I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come. I reached out to you, but you pai...

Scenes, Seen and Sins

Read 2 Samuel 11:1-5 Sin has a pattern in our lives. We just have to learn to ask the right questions when it comes to drifting away from God. In David's case, we could learn how it progressed by asking the 4 questions: 1. Where are you now? Read in verse 1: The sign your lost is that you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. David was supposed to be at war. But he stayed behind. The moment we start running away from what God asked to do and go back to the places we used to go in our past life esp w/ the reason- "nagpapahinga lang ako!" its a sign we must turn back or else... 2. What are you looking at? V2. You start looking at the wrong things or people. You get distracted and your vision changes. Like David he forgot the promises of God and his warning not to disobey by just one look. That's what it all takes one look. It is not when we are at war we get tested- it is when we are "resting" and we gave in. 3. Who are you talking to? ...

Reasons and Revelations

Tuesday night. It only means one thing in our household: Family Devotional.  We usually start with a short opening prayer and then we read the Proverbs for the day. Since its the 25th of July, we read Proverbs 25. No matter the different and varying Bible translations of everyone in our house, we read the Proverbs out loud while taking turns.  My mother always reads first and she always reads two verses when its her turn. Why? She reads one for my father's turn. My mom can still read well despite her old age and dimming eyesight. But for my father, its already a blurry one. My mom reads and my father explains and expounds the verse. That's how they always do their devotional. It's always endearing to witness because its how they minister with the Power of One.  Tonight, as we take turns sharing what specific verse hit home and our personal message of the day, it was clear that God's emphasis for us from today's proverbs would be trusting God beyond our need to...

LOVE BUILDS BRIDGES

Proverbs 17:9  Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends. The picture is from my prayer wall. I was reading my daily devotional and the verse above written really struck me.  The bible verse reminds me of an idiom-' burn one's bridges': Have you tried that?  I have. But most of the time i'm the one at the other side of the bridge watching others burn bridges. Whether you are in the ministry or not, serving people or not, people will come and go. As a minister, you can pour out your life and give your best and still people will leave.  Oh I can get over every time someone walks off. Its nothing personal no matter how personal my occupation is. What saddens me is not why they left(everyone has reaaons. Its not always bout you), but how they left. I have tried experiencing the usual 'changing of numbers so I won't be able to contact them'.  Or The usual 'avoid me game' and even 'blocking me ...

Daily devotional: Proverbs 21

Proverbs 21:3 The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices. Do what is Right. Many people do what they THINK is right not what the Lord thinks is right. They justify and even rationalize until they feel good about themselves. But FEELING good and doing what is right is different. Your standard of rightness is not subjective, it should be objective with God's word(qouting a bible verse and not doing it doesn't count). #dotheright #wagkumaliwa

Bearing fruit: Change

Colossians 1:6 This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace. #bearfruit #changedlife Pagwala ka nagbago, wala pa nagbunga ang faith mo. Tell your faith. Show your fruit.

Daiy Devotional: Proverbs 17

Proverbs 17:17 A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need. -a friend we have in Jesus! He who loves us at all times even in our not so good moments or bad times. He is our brother who is born to share with our struggle. We should love like this. Loving like a friend at all times, a brother or sister in good or bad times. Proverbs 17:13 If you repay good with evil, evil will never leave your house. -never repay the goodness of God with evil. Its scary to think bout this. Proverbs 17:9 Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends. -its easier to hold anger than let it go. But holding on to anger is like holding a double edged knife. The more you grip it, the more wounded you'll be. Proverbs 17:16 It is senseless to pay tuition to educate a fool, since he has no heart for learning. - sad reality. Kasagaran parents are decieved that pgnapagtapos nila ang kanilang mga anak they become wise at good chil...

A Testimony From an Eyewitness

I've read many books and heard many stories but the ones that truly fascinate me are those right out of the 'horse's mouth' or from someone who was actually there in the exact time and place when the story happened.  First hand accounts makes it factual and credible. Much like in the court room for a case or statement to be proven true, there should be evidence or an eyewitness report. A Testimony from an eyewitness.  This is how John begins the his letter in 1 John. He was one of the 12 disciples, hand picked, called by name and chosen personally by Jesus ( Matthew 4:18-22 ; Mark 1:16-20 ; Mark 3:13-18 ). This is how he starts his letter: Take note of how he begins the letter. It's laying it down even before instructing or further explaining any 'theological' ideas, he plainly says that whatever he is about to say about Jesus is the Truth. He speaks from someone who have clearly "heard and seen" Jesus. Then he furthers his claim when he...

Strip Off!

It's not what you are thinking! In Hebrews 12:1, the writer urges that; ' Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.' If you are serious with your run for Jesus, you must also be willing to strip down whatever slows you down in the path of righteousness and especially sins that easily trips us up. Why? Witnessed Life of Faith The writer urges because 'we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith'. This can be bith interpreted as a promise and a challenge. As a promise, if you read back the previous chapter, Hebrews 11 or what many calls as the 'Chapter of Faith', it gave examples of those who were recorded in the scriptures who lived out their faith. We can strip it down because we have such a huge crowd of witnesses...
