Simple pleasures in the Mundane

This is my portfolio entry for my Masteral Class. It's about descriptive writing. Enjoy!
Simple pleasures in the Mundane
They say that simplicity is beauty. I dare say, I agree with them. There are things that some of us take for granted but are simple pleasures that make life grand even in the mundane.
Like a cup of hot coffee made just right for your taste on a rainy day. The robust smell of the coffee is intensified by the hot water and even the dampness of the weather. The warmth that emanates from the cup between your fingers is also comforting.
The simple pleasure of grass, freshly mowed in the morning. The damp smell because of the morning dew adds more to its freshness and coolness as you breathe in and out of its scent.
The sound of an in-tune guitar as you strike each chord. The feel of smooth and soft wood as you slide through each chord progression and the vibration of the strings on your finger. The excitement it arouses in you as the song grows more and more, and soon enough you break into a song.
The simple pleasure of books whether old or new. The feel and smell of these books as you turn each of their pages and the flood of anticipation that surges in you that a new adventure is about to begin. And even dog-eared and tattered books is a reminder that some adventures are ought to be reminisced and not to be forgotten.
The emotions a good poetry evokes. How every word used is like brush on a canvass, painting a masterpiece. And the rhyme, oh! How they make the masterpiece come to life! That poetry is ought not to be understood but felt.
Even the simplicity of a true and sincere prayer that rises from a desperate heart is pleasurable. It’s the perfect time to just stop what you were doing and just breathe in and out. When a single spoken word that seems so irrelevant but is already a prayer at the depth of your being, ready to burst out. And as you finally release and slump to your chair or even to the floor, there you know you’ve found peace.
I could go on and on about these simple pleasures that are usually missed or taken for granted and viewed ordinary and normal. Like the feel of a reassuring hand, an unexpected smile, soft kisses, hugs, a genuine word of appreciation, spoken word of love and even the opportunity to wake up for another day and being grateful that you are still breathing.

We always expect the mountain top or a monument and yet we tend to miss the very things and even people that make life really monumental. Take another glimpse for what could have possibly be a simple pleasure in the mundane.

Bring them back to Repentance? IMPOSSIBLE

This message in Hebrews 6:4 to 6, can be a warning to 3 people: Those who ‘turned away from God”; Those who have not ‘turned away from God and; Those who know people who “turned from God”.   It stands as a warning to us.  Have we heard God’s voice and trembled? I don’t mean fear that keeps us from coming to God, but the kind of fear that is spoken in Proverbs as “the foundation of wisdom.” We fondly pray that God would speak to us and hear His voice but do we really know what we are praying? It reminded me of the Israelites who were at the foot of Mount Sinai. When they heard God’s thunderous voice, they did not dare come nearer and asked Moses to speak in their behalf (Deuteronomy 5:23-27). To quote Francis Chan, “When you pick up your Bible, you are actually holding something better than a voice coming out of a cloud on the top of a mountain.” So this warning must really create a Holy fear in us that will keep us from turning away from God. It ...

Blogging again!

I miss blogging! So after nights of sipping on my coffee and thinking (and also looking at the stack of paper of all my preaching notes) I've decided to blog them. :D Since becoming a pastor 3 years ago, I would prepare for my sermons or preaching every week. It doesn't include the time I would also prepare for my G12 cell group with my core leaders and opencell life groups we conduct. I also have notes for every class I conduct on our Post-encounter, School of Leaders 1 and 2. So yes, if material is the question, no doubt I have plenty of those. Then I also though of what I am passionate about. It was always been this- reading, writing and speaking. It's also a way to keep my leaders updated of all that's happening to the church here in Kabacan; where the Spirit of God is leading us and what are some of the issues that needs to be addressed as it also resonates in the emphasis of each preaching I share. If you happen to read one of my blog posts feel free to co...

We All Have Two Women inside of us (if you're one) or with us (if you are a Man): the Wife or the Mistress

Whenever I read the book of Proverbs, I always want to be like her. Wisdom is always defined and personified as a woman calling out to the simpleminded and those who lack good judgement to join her in her feast. Can you imagine that? Wisdom is like a banquet host. What she says, the words of wisdom are like a home cooked meal! Partaking wisdom is like eating. Much like in Psalm 34:8 it says, "taste and see". I always liked her. Actually I wanted to be like her. Each chapter that she is described differently but makes me want more to be like her. Persistent and Unashamed In Proverbs 1 she is a Persistent Woman and unashamed. She calls out, cries out even in the public and to the crowds. She persistently calls out to share not just her counsel but even her own heart. I am greatly challenged by this as a pastor and discipler. When, just like Wisdom, you also experienced this lines: “I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come. I reached out to you, but you pai...
